The common light sources of solar street lamps are mainly fluorescent lamps, high-pressure sodium lamps, low-pressure sodium lamps, metal halide lamps, etc. In recent years, with the successful development of high-power LEDs, the new energy-saving light source LEDs of solar street lamp manufacturers have also attracted widespread attention.

Ordinary fluorescent lamps provide more green light, about 50%, and the rest are mostly red and blue light, which account for about 25% of the total spectrum, and the far-red spectrum has a very low proportion. Fluorescent lamps have high luminous efficiency and long life (about 12000h), but their power is small (currently there are two types of 28W and 36W), and many lamps are required to meet a certain illuminance. Because it contains a lot of green light, it is easy to cause leggy crops. Currently commonly used in plant tissue culture.

Sodium lamp is a gas light source that emits light from mercury and sodium vapor. It is divided into two types: low pressure sodium lamp and high pressure sodium lamp. Low-pressure sodium lamps appeared earlier, the sodium vapor pressure does not exceed a few Pa, and its luminescence spectrum is concentrated in the yellow light of 589nm, which can usually only be used in conjunction with other light sources. The luminous efficiency is as high as 200lm/W, and the lifespan is long (about 9000h). The standard working sodium vapor pressure of the high-pressure sodium lamp is about 10kPa, and there are more red-orange light and less blue-green light in the luminous spectrum. It has high luminous efficiency, high power and long life (about 12000h), and is currently used more. However, because the high-pressure sodium lamp is a heat source, the surface temperature is high, and the calorific value is large, so it cannot irradiate crops at close range.

A metal halide lamp is a gas luminous light source that generates an arc with the mixed vapor of mercury and a halide of a rare metal to discharge and emit light. Different spectra can be presented by changing the metal halide composition. It has high luminous efficiency, high power and long life (5000h~20000h). However, the filling in the lamp contains mercury, which will pollute the environment when the used lamp is broken or discarded after failure. The spectrum contains more far-red light, which generates a large amount of heat and cannot irradiate crops at close range.
